Summary/Abstract: In the post-communist period Ukraine found itself sandwiched in the areas of influence of the European Union and Russia. Ukraine faced the challenges of both nation-building process and the post-communist political and economical deadlocks. High levels of poverty and corruption triggered a social explosion and a wide range civil uprising in 2004. This pro-European civil uprising, the "Orange Revolution", lost its influence after 2006 and Ukranian government started to pursue more pro-Russian policy. The political and economical status quo from 2006 to 2013 continued and caused a rupture between people and government. Therefore new civil uprising fuelled in 2013 and considered as "Euromaidan Revolution". Euromaidan created a domestic turmoil in Ukraine and Russia intervened more actively in the domestic politics of this country and a civil war has started. This article analyzes and compares the Orange Revolution (2004) and the Euromaidan Revolution (2013) regarding internal and external dynamics that are intersecting and interacting with each other.
