AN UNKNOWN SEAL IN THE COLLECTIONS OF THE MUSEUM OF SEBEŞ

Summary/Abstract: The author presents an unpublisched seal, found in the collections of the museum from Sebeş (inv. nr. 1022). The object was part of the old collections of the German school from Sebeş aud entered in the museum in 1960. he seal belonged to Antonius Stephani, a catholic bishop of Nicopole (1676-1691). who took refuge to Vienna, due to the Turkish attacks and died there. The seal was probably taken to Sebeş by one of its inhabitants, travelling to Vienna for studies or trade. The study contains not only a detailed description of the object and its parallels, but also some remarks about the histor= of the catholic episcopate of Nicopole.
