Summary/Abstract: Translating Manilius’ Astronomica is a goal worthy of pursuing on the field of Polish classical studies. The author, unpopular for his peculiar style and strictly technical jargon, remains rather unknown despite the text being preserved in a very good condition. This attempt to translate the longest description of zodiac in the whole poem into Polish is one of the first, if not first at all, up to date. Astronomica as the only original Roman astronomical poem should be carefully investigated, for it handles different views on ancient astronomical traditions, and therefore, enables contemporary recipient to undertake the challenge of understanding the ancient imagination.
