Summary/Abstract: The Obscure Sides of an Anguished Intimacy: Arthur Adamov. This paper proposes an analysis of the great problem of intimacy in Arthur Adamov’s writings (diaries, plays, essays). Tortured by the figures of a nocturnal imaginary, the writer creates artificially a secure, intimate space, based on egoism and narcissism. Then, facing the aggressions of reality and discovering the fragility of this space, he searches a refuge in some rites, happenings or forms of political action. Not being satisfied by this exterior orientation of his life and creation, Adamov returns to dream, seen as the superior expression of (creative) freedom.
