Summary/Abstract: The present article intends to indentify the main economic features as well as the legal frame of the process of transition from the socialist regime to the democratic and capitalist one in Romania and Bulgaria. This is why I was interested in looking into the following aspects: The way the process of transition developed both in Romania and Bulgaria; The process of building the new social and political institutions on which all the economic changes based; The reconstructing policies as well as the integration within the European Union of Romania and Bulgaria. In order to obtain a clear view of these phenomena I picked up important details belonging both to the Romanian society and to the Bulgarian one, and I presented them in parallel. This choice of presentation was motivated by the fact that the above mentioned countries are neighbors and they crossed the process of transition at the same time. I also brought out into strong relief the differences between the two countries (Romania and Bulgaria) as the great movement in 1989 (which was the starting point for all the social, political, juristic, economic, cultural changes) differently happened: it was a severe national revolt in Romania while Bulgaria simply adopted the Soviet model for the so-called new structures of the society.
