Summary/Abstract: For the archaeologist Romanization is a complex issue involving at its core questions of identity, and interpretations of material culture. The territory of the actual Albania is the geographical area that delimits this study. In the Roman period, South Illyria was divided between the provinces of Macedonia, Achaia and Dalmatia. The area chosen as a case of study does not represent an ancient region or administrative division but for the archaeology and history of the Roman period represents a « black hole » in the Balkan and Mediterranean basin. The study of this process in Albania began only in the mid 1970s fostered by one of the founders of the Albanian archaeology, Skënder Anamali. [....]
