Summary/Abstract: Literature and fiction are often assumed to be synonymous terms covering the same area of reference. Although it is true that what we understand by literature are mostly works of fiction, and that by fiction we understand forms of written output that is also literary, a second look will allow us to reveal the difficulties associated with these assumptions. As accurate as they may be considered for everyday purposes, closer scrutiny will prove these terms distinct and far from easy to define.
