Summary/Abstract: This study investigates the motivational characteristics of the two groups of programmers working in the Internal Affairs and the relationship of these features to a successful career. Programmers are divided into two groups according to their potency and efficiency which is based on the nature of activity - goal-relied (I group) or expedient (II group). Significant differences between the two groups of programmers are observed according to the orientations on the "process", "selfishness", "freedom" and "authority". Programmers of the I group are more concentrated on the "process" and "freedom", whereas the programmers of the II group are focused on "selfishness" and "authority."
