Summary/Abstract: The article reflects the contemporary status of religion. Using Eliade's opposition between the sacred and the de-sacralised, the modern man is opposed to his pre-modern counterpart. The author discovers in modern non-religious behaviour several patterns of language and belief belonging to "homo religiosus. Castaneda's system is interpreted as a recovery of pre-modern values and models.
