Summary/Abstract: As a skeptical approach to Castaneda's system, the article questions the assimilation of the book to "non-fiction" literature. The author compares Castaneda's pretended research to the traditional canonic studies on shamanism. Even more, it compares different aspects of the shamanic profile as they appear in Castaneda's work to the traditional roles of the shaman. In conclusion, Castaneda's system is considered a contemporary sort of shamanism, more easily accessible to postmodern man.
