Summary/Abstract: Music in the prenatal period may play an important role for both a mother and Her child. Psychotherapeutic qualities of relaxing and calming down music are known. In pregnancy music may positively influence woman’s mental-physical condition, as well as facilitate making bonds between her and her child. Music also influences the featus that hears the music, reacts to it and remembers it when being born. This is the so called prenatal education. The concerts for pregnant women and infants are organized which perform both a therapeutic and educational function. A similar function is played by the so called “prenatal lullabies”, which constitute a collection of sounds heard by the child in the foetal period enriched with relaxing music. Using music during a delivery, on the other hand, lessens pain, improves woman’s mental-physical condition and decreases delivery trauma in children. American music therapists worked out specific procedures of using music in pregnancy and delivery.
