Summary/Abstract: For Mircea Eliade the memory is a savior ark. The resurrection of events that happened at the beginning of the world represents a being's periodic obligation. The hypermnesia is a recovering gesture and a method to understand the infinity. This theme, used by Jorge Louis Borges (in a tale titled Funes, the Memorious) and by Mircea Eliade (in Youth Without Youth), was the source of inspiration for the new movie of the producer Francis Ford Coppola. The characters of these stories follow a road of initiation in a labyrinth governed by different rules. The hypermnesia of Dominic Matei is an escape that follows the christian salvation model. In the Borges’s tale, the hypermnesia of Irineo is a game based on metaphorical principles. But the two characters make a journey out of This World.
