Summary/Abstract: Even after the Lisbon Treated entered into force, the rotating presidency of the EU Council has retained an array of important prerogatives in respect of enlargement policy. The key decisions, however, continue to be the competence of the EU’s top institutions, where at each stage member states evaluate the aspirants’ progress along their European integration path. Since its own accession, Poland has steadfastly pronounced itself in favour of further enlargement, and will likely use the present time to express its affinity with the EU’s open-door approach, while urging other member states to show greater understanding for such a policy.
