Summary/Abstract: The article analyses the methodological functions of the concept of “death” in the structuralist and poststructuralist interpretations. It is shown that the concept of death helps to understand different phenomena of man's life and activity. The article demonstrates that the concept of “man’s death” gains one of the central places in the works of postructuralists (R. Barthes, J. Derrida, M. Foucault). The author interprets the expansion of this concept in modern philosophical discourse as the reflection of the anxiety of the thinkers about the future of the European culture and humanity in general.
