Summary/Abstract: This paper is in a sense a narrative from the recent and distant past, of sommething that is to some extent fading into oblivion. It dwells on Al Andalus (Spain) and Bosnia and Herzegovina, countries of tears and pain – and more on Al Andalus, because of the sense that history repeats itself. It makes use of details from the lecture given by Prof. Dr. Br. B. s. Fankinkknoksfeld of Holland in at Congress in Alexandria, organized by the Ministry of Waqfs, High Committee for Islamic Affairs, with the title “Muslims capttive in western Europe during the late mediaeval period.” The theme of the Congress was “The contribution of religion to the service of humankind.”
