Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the systemic and philosophical foundations of the hierarchy theory and the possibility of their use as a methodological tool for constructing the theory of ecology. The research has shown that the notions of hierarchy and ecology are of systemic nature and are characterized by the connection with the principles and categories of dialectics and with the knowledge in natural and human sciences. This allowed us to make a conclusion about the possibility to use the systemic and philosophical bases of the hierarchy theory in the design of abstract models of ecological systems, to analyze the latter using the symmetry violation principle, and, finally, to describe the relationships between the ecological system levels numerically.
