Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the problem of the attitude of a person towards their past and history, and the study of the role of remembrance and oblivion in the formation of human identity. An attempt is made to answer the question whether the principle of remembrance, according to which it is necessary to remember and accept the past to preserve identity, is appropriate to a modern person. Thereupon, it is found fruitful to consider the novel “Ignorance” written by Czech prosaic Milan Kundera. The analysis of this novel allows us to draw the following conclusion: the basis of the identity and integrity of a person is a right remembrance, which consists in the acceptance of their past and history as a condition for harmonious existence in the present.
