Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the development of a new approach to the study of labour. The work is aimed at solving the task of a self-consistent synthesis of the two concepts of labour – K. Marx’s and M. Heidegger’s. These concepts are considered as mutually complementary, because they allow understanding of labour at two levels – social and individual (existential). The paper uses the concept of self-determination of a subject and proposes considering individual activity as a form of self-determination of a social subject. Such an approach to the problem of activity makes it possible to integrate the studies of the unconscious in the Marxist social philosophy and to identify specific mechanisms of determination of individual consciousnesses by objective factors of social being.
