Summary/Abstract: Gazprom is currently considered to be the major Russian energy company and also the world's largest producer and exporter of natural gas. Besides the domestic market, Gazprom expands its activities in many countries all over the world. The key economic region for the export of natural gas and an important source of revenue for Gazprom is primarily the markets of the member states of the European Union. In addition to Western and Southern Europe, which are major trading partners of Gazprom and the largest buyers of Russian gas in the EU, the Russian company Gazprom is following its energy interests also in countries of Central Europe. The aim of this article is to analyze the strategic interests of Gazprom in the natural gas sector in the countries of the Visegrad Group in the context of Gazprom’s energy policy vis-à-vis the European Union. The second aim of the article is to examine the prospects for the political and economic interests of Gazprom in Central Europe.
