Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the substance and peculiarities of the concept "Economic inhabitability" which concerns not only the regional division but also the different socioeconomic branches, enterprises, administrative and managing activities, occupations and others. The economic inhabitability is discussed in two main aspects: 1. Aspect of "inhabitance" — the active and dependent population which at certain socioeconomic conditions is living and getting income in a given region, socioeconomic branch, occupation, etc. 2. Aspect of "inhabitability" — the degree to which a given region, socioeconomic branch (different enterprises), managing structures, occupations can at certain natural and socioeconomic conditions absorb active and dependent population providing it with jobs and an income for a decent life. The article discusses the theoretical and methodological basis for empirical surveys in this respect. These will reveal the degrees of under-inhabitance, optimal inhabitance and over-inhabitance of the different regions, socioeconomic branches (their enterprises), managing structures, occupations, etc. which is of great importance for the socioeconomic policy of this country.
