The Population of Europe and Bulgaria up to 2025

Summary/Abstract: Based on prognostic data of "World Population Prospects" latest issue of 1991, the article treats the population development prospects up to 2025. Treated are the improvernents in methodology and prognostication used by the UN Department of Demography. Investigated are the major indicators of demographic reproduction of the world at large, of Europe and its separate regions. More detailed analysis is made of the East-European region so as to find out Bulgaria`s place among the other countries in it. lt is shown that the demographic processes development in Bulgaria foliows the common European tendencies. Also the article has indicated the big siniilarity in the reproduction of East-European countries' population. Long-term prognoses take a key position in the demographic practicies as a guide in the population development in a normal social and economic situation.
