Summary/Abstract: The article first addresses the problem of existence of, among others, Bosnian- Herzegovinian and Bosniak literature. The author focuses his attention on the issue of the scholarly, literary historical canonization of these two South- Slavic literatures, initiated during the early seventies of the 20th century by Midhat Begić, a progenitor of modern literary Bosnian and Bosniak studies. In this way the paper tries to answer these and other similar questions: does and how Bosnian-Herzegovinian literature exist, how it relates to Bosniak, Bosnian-Croatian and Bosnian-Serbian literature, but as well to Croatian and Serbian literature in general, etc. and vice versa. Taken together with other possible questions these issues comprise the precondition for the central dilemma: without a comprehensive literary history of any of the above-mentioned literatures within B&H, can any official literary canon be formed for the various Bosnian-Herzegovinian literary levels? And, finally, what are the possible causes for this state in the process of literary canonization in B&H?
