Summary/Abstract: The Comedian in the Billiards Hall. The article deals with a forgotten aspect of Flaubert’s biography: as a child he acted on stage. He can thus be placed in the line of writers (Rousseau, Goethe, Mme de Staël, Stendhal) for whom the theatrical adventures of their childhood represented a period of intellectual training. Exploring pages of literary history, analyzing biographical, psychological and aesthetic aspects of Gustave Flaubert’s life and work and, at the same time, taking into account Sartre’s „existential psychoanalysis”, the author of this essay reveals the transformations of the unfulfilled calling, the actor’s calling as an actor, seen as a source of inspiration for Flaubert's bovarysme.
