Prediction of ATM network development in Poland

Summary/Abstract: After a series of reductions in ATM withdrawal interchange fees in the Visa and MasterCard systems in 2010, ATM owners in Poland faced a sharp decline in the profitability of their business. They were forced to reallocate many cash dispensers, often from the rural areas and small towns to bigger cities. The problem of the possible fall of the ATMs’ number in the nearest future was identified by the National Bank of Poland. The article aims to predict the number of ATMs in Poland between the fourth quarter of 2011 and the third quarter of 2012. It was tested whether the reduction of the cash dispenser number in this period is to be expected.
