Aspects of regional infrastructure and its impact on the development of tourism in the macroregion of eastern Poland in the years 2000-2010

Summary/Abstract: The macroregion of eastern Poland is rich in unique, even in Europe, natural values preserved in many cases in their natural state. So far, it has been believed that the reduction of interest in these landscape values on the part of domestic and foreign tourists was due to the modest transport accessibility to these areas and the insufficient accommodation base. This article presents an attempt to assess the state of tourism infrastructure and the number of people using accommodation in the objects of collective accommodation. The comparative and statistical analyses show that in the studied period there was no close correlation between the rising standard of infrastructure, and the size of tourism. Thus, against a background of these comparisons, the article also identifies other determinants shaping contemporary tourism.
