Eco-consumption as a condition for more effective use of natural resources and the awareness and behavior of Polish consumers

Summary/Abstract: Changes in the sphere of consumption are the key factor to hinder the processes of intensive exploitation of natural resources. The preferred direction is making by households ecologically oriented choices in terms of acquisition, use of goods and then waste disposal. The aim of this elaboration is to show the impact of patterns and styles of consumption (consumerism, sustainable consumption) on the demand for environmental resources and to high-light the greening processes of household consumption as a factor positively associated with the efficient resources management. The results of the research on environmental awareness and consumer attitudes and behavior among Poles indicate a significant discrepancy in the consumer’s declarations manifesting high environmental awareness and readiness for environmental bearing and the actual actions taken.
