Summary/Abstract: The paper presents interesting details from the life of Abu Said Abul-Khayr (357 – 440 AH), a notable sheikh from the town of Mahna in the Iranian province of Khorasan, famous for his lectures and keramat. He was raised under the supervision of the best-known and most recognised teachers of his time, who provide him with fundamental knowledge of Qur’anic fikh, ilm-al-kalam and tafsir. The person who gave Abu Said his gnostic upbringing and motivated him for “spiritual trials” was another residents of Mahna, Abul-Kasim Bishr Yasin, one of the best-known poets of Khorasan, who occupies a prominent place in the history of gnostic Persian poetry. The paper also presents Abu Said’s gnostic teaching; his meetings with notable contemporaries; his relationship with womengnostics who visited his hanikah. The paper ends with a selection of a huge number of verses that sheikh Abu Said Abul-Khayr recited to his majlis.
