Social Policy and Local Administrations in the Era of

Summary/Abstract: In the globalization era, it have been witnessed a very large scale economic, social and political transformations all over the world. These changes occurring in the new world order have brought some problems together. Amongst these complex problems are socio-economic problems such as unemployment, poverty, income inequalities, social security and social services within the scope of social policy. These complex socioeconomic problems of societies under the process of globalization have enforced the social policy to be tackled with from different dimensions. Consequently, it has been probed in this article that social policy is dealt with in regard to various aspects of the phenomenon such as the global, national, or local aspect, especially at the local government level. It has been tried to theoretically determine the new functions of social policymaking and implementation of local governments’ that have undergone change in the globalization process. Relying on inferences derived from the existing literature, this study aims to determine the advantages of the local government units in order to help the creation of social policies which are able to respond efficiently and properly to the needs and expectations of the local people. Research results have shown that the globalization process has given some new functions in the social policy- making and its implementation to local governments. In addition, it has been rummaged out that local governments play an important role streamlined to local realities and regional needs of the macro-level social policies created by central governments.
