The pedagogy of faith in the evangelical mission of the Redemptorists

Summary/Abstract: The experience of twenty centuries of Christianity shows us the need to dedicate ourselves in the evangelical mission – knowing the Saviour through faith – to help others to experience His love of redemption. This becomes the specific pedagogy of faith, through which God intends to form man into His own image. The fullness of humanity which Jesus Christ the Son of God has revealed to us, through which we are reconciled to God the Father in the Holy Spirit illuminates and transfigures us, so that united with Him, we could achieve salvation. The founder of the Redemptorists, St. Alphonsus de Liguori understood this pedagogy very well, preaching the abundant redemption for the most abandoned, and following in this way the example of Jesus. The founder of the Redemptorists desired that his “spiritual sons” would be ready to discover the poverty in the world, above all that spiritual aspect of it, in order to bring the hope of liberation. The Redemptorists must discover the most efficient means to become witnesses of this work at all times and at all places basing themselves on the pedagogy founded on the knowledge of the world of today and of the nature of man. In this sense, they promote the values that protect the supreme good of human nature, salvation. Because of the paideia (Greek) which in the practical world is realized in this spirit, one cannot lose the best tradition and the understanding of spirituality of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer which needs to be always described in a profound sense. We can say that the pedagogy of the Redemptorists that is achieved in the evangelizing mission leads those who undertake it, the preachers as well as the receivers of that preaching, towards full humanity.
