Summary/Abstract: Atlas Theatrum Orbis Terrarum by Abraham Ortelius, famous Dutch cartographer from 16 century, is considered as ancestor of modern atlases. It contains maps of European cartographers of that age ( A. Hirschvogel, S. Münster, J. Sambucus, G. Mercator ).An edition published in Antverpen in 1592, which is now in possession of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina, contains few maps of area of Bosnia and Herzegovina with numerous places, emossments, rivers, etc. This is why these maps are important for studying our geography, history and historical cartography, and particularly our cultural heritage that is a part of European cultural heritage. This is why we should repair this valuable atlas and then digitize it. Thus, the atlas would be best preserved from further damages, and it would be available to our users.
