Summary/Abstract: The career of the diary genre is already quite interesting in itself. The diary, just like the letter, has turned from a secular genre into a literary one. The diary can, of course, be regarded as a letter that intends to bridge not space but time as in its original, secular function it can be interpreted as our writing about ourselves to ourselves: the message of our past self to our future self; the message of who I am not any more to who I am not yet. There is another sharp turn when it all becomes an alibi and we want to send a message to others with it.
