Summary/Abstract: The study treats of relations between slovak and czech nation in the first Czechoslovak republic . Both ethnics lived hundreds years in the near area: both were a part of austria-hungarian monarchy, they have even more than seventy years lasting experience with existence in common state known as Czechoslovak republic (in few variations: democratic, socialist, federative). Their languages are very similar, their history is full of mutual contats on the level of their political elites and also full of contacts among simple people. Instead of this, the project of their common state has crashed two times (in the years 1939 and 1993) because of accumulation of mutual interethnical problems: the question of their state form, different character of their economies, ambivalence of „czechoslavak nation“, “czechoslovak languange” and “czechoslovakism” terms, different view of domestic and foreign policy, etc. All of this problem fundaments we can find before and after the state establishing in the year 1918. For better understanding of problematic issues between nations of Slovaks and Czechs, we have to understand events before and during the existence of the first Czechoslovak republic first.
