Summary/Abstract: The paper presents semantic, etymological and stylistic analysis of lexemes denoting colours introduced by J. Słowacki in his dramas ({Maria Stuart, Balladyna, Kordian, Lilla Weneda, Beatryks Cenci, Fantazy} and {Priest Marek}). The subject of research was to determine features typical for language and style of Słowacki. Author concentrated specially on names of basic and derived colours which can be interested for researcher of artistic language (for example as components of metaphors) and also on names derived from metals ({gold} and {silver}). Analysis showed that Słowacki very often used lexemes: {white} ({Balladyna, Kordian, Lilla Weneda, Beatryks Cenci}), {pale} ({Maria Stuart, Balladyna, Kordian}), {gold} ({Maria Stuart, Balladyna, Kordian, Lilla Weneda, Priest Marek, Fantazy}), {red} ({Balladyna, Lilla Weneda, Beatryks Cenci}) and {full of blood} ({Maria Stuart, Balladyna, Lilla Weneda, Beatryks Cenci, Priest Marek}). The most numerous are names of basic colours and colours derived from {red}. Lexemes used by Słowacki have symbolic meaning ({white} – innocence, death; {red} – crime; {black} – evil, hell; {green} – betrayal, irritation) and they describes designates more clearly. Many colour names are used as poetisms: {pale, alabaster, sapphire, azure}. They also can be components of metaphors and comparisons.
