Summary/Abstract: The author reviews the reasons which led to a marked interest among the Czech community in the way of life and culture of the Bulgarian people immediately after their Liberation from Ottoman domination (1878). The Czech school masters, who settled in Bulgaria are listed, together with their studies, a small part of which were published in the Czech periodical press of that day, while most of them preserved in manuscript form. The author analyses the content of the materials indicated and defines three main trends which run through the studies: a detailed knowledge of Bulgarian daily life at that time; the ethnic development of the Bulgarian people; the way of life and culture of the Bulgarian peasants. Emphasis is laid on the fact that in their studies the Czech schoolmasters found the unity of the Bulgarian people in their historical ethnic frontiers, i. e. in the regions of the Dobroudja, Moesia, Thrace and Macedonia.
