Summary/Abstract: Unfriendly / hostile / image of Islam began to develop in the Okcident since the Middle Ages. Far hypocritical and scientific formed criticism of Islam was developed with the emergence of scientific disciplines of Orientalism in the 19th century in Germany, France and England. The aim was to create the ideological basis for destruction of prime sources of Islam (primarily the Holy Qur’an and Hadith). But, today, in the West, the direction of religious pluralism is being developed, which is beginning to create a more open picture of each other, and different, and so of Islam and Muslims. One of the greatest representatives of this direction in theology and religious studies is Hans Küng, whose life and work has been described in this paper. His bibliographic data, school and professorship, has been given. Special attention was given to his participation at the 2nd Vatican Council, and his way thru theology and religiology / religious studies / in four stages. Crown of his theological thought is expressed through the Project World ethos whose carrier slogan is: „There will be no peace among nations without peace among religions. There will be no peace among religions without dialogue between religions.“
