Summary/Abstract: „The Registry of people who inhabit the towns of the Dorohoi county, by letters” comprises the population of the towns of Dorohoi, Mihăileni and Săveni, in 1831. From a demographic perspective, in the old town of Dorohoi, the number of Jews grew, starting with the last quarter of the 18th century. Hence, in 1831, they counted over half of the inhabitants, while in the two new towns (Târgul Nou – Mihăileni and Săveni) – founded precisely in order for them to be inhabited by the Jews from abroad – the number of Jews exceeded permanently that of the Christian population. Besides the publication of this census, I presented a series of data and facts within the history of Dorohoi, in the interval 1832-1835, following the application of the Organic Statute and before changing the county centre from the old town of Dorohoi to the new town of Mihăileni.
