Summary/Abstract: Historiographical projects of the communist regime from the period of „new course” have produced an approach that developed consequences in both sides. On one hand, the political leaders have expressed their wish that the principles of the official ideology and the Party to legitimate a position in the Romanian history. Instead of that, historians promoted by the regime starting with the second half of the 1950s have tried in many occasions to speed up the national's speech recovery process, while approaching a superficial Marxist-Leninist language. The development of a major scientific project similar to The Treaty of Romanian History created by itself the emerge of numerous historiographical contributions of the period, but probably the most essential aspect remains the importance of the interest shown to the regime for the interpretation of the past, which will prevail in the instauration of national-communism. The status of Andrei Oţetea during the peak years of Stalinism represents a notable argument which helps to explain his rise within the academic structures since 1955. Simultaneously, the moment is also relevant in his historiographical concerns which keeps him in the attention leading authorities and rulers of the ideology. Being one of the few specialists who came near – truth to be told, sporadically – by the materialist conception of history, Andrei Oţetea became, especially after the marginalization of historians which were part of the Roller’s faction, one of the intellectual landmarks within historical materialism.
