Summary/Abstract: This study is an attempt to outline a brief biography of the diplomat Dumitru Perticari (1856-1899) by relying on the few letters left of him which are provided as annexes. As many other young people of the time, he studied abroad, in Paris, where he earned a degree in Law. In the French capital he met his future wife, Marguerite, Baron Mauté de Fleurville’s daughter. With a career in Romanian diplomacy spanning approximately 10 years, he was appointed secretary of legation in various European capitals: Rome, Petersburg, Vienna, Berlinand Brussels. He caught a lung condition from the tsars’ capital, which would eat away at his health for years and eventually cause his withdrawal from diplomacy in 1893. He withdrew far away from the country, in Switzerland, with his wife, trying to mediate various conflicts between his brothers. Consumed by illness, he died in 1899 in Paris.
