Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study is to analyse the main aspects of value transition that Bulgarians are facing nowadays. The author suggests that the essence of this process, on social and individual levels as well, refers first of all to one of the main dimensions of value system — collectivism/individualism. The main task is to investigate the impact of collectivism/individualism on the other aspects of value transition — value crisis, value conflicts, value priorities and subjective well-being. The hypothesis was that social groups differ from the point of view of collectivism/individualism and hence have different patterns of value transition. The impact of individualism/collectivism was investigated by forming two subsamples — "collectivists" and "in-dividualists". 568 persons from four social groups — theology students, teachers, businessmen and unemployed, participated in the study carried out in 1995. The results show that these social groups have different even contrasting patterns of value transition in terms of experience of individualism/collectivism, value crisis, value priorities and subjective well-being. The impact of value transition on subjective well-being is also discussed.
