Summary/Abstract: This paper tries to appropriate the concept of colonial modernity, to the study of the process of modernization that the Islamic civilization has undertaken during the 18th and the early 19th centuries. Our aim is to set the outline and origin of the concept by placing it in a subordinate position inside the overall process of modernization.
