Summary/Abstract: After the removal of Nikita Khrushchev in October 1964 both Yugoslav and Soviet leadership decided to maintain the course of improving relations. Such course was confirmed in the talks held in June 1965 and cooperation in different areas was secured. Favorable setting of political relations was strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the field of economy, as USSR in these years became one of the leading economical partners of Yugoslavia. In the second half of 1966 there was a setback in relations. After the removal of Aleksandar Ranković in June 1966, Soviet side was expressing doubts regarding the evolution of Yugoslav political system, particularly about the role of the LCY in the society and overall direction of the economic reforms. Differences in views were not overcome at the two meetings between Tito and Brezhnev, held in September 1966 in Belgrade and in January 1967 in Moscow. Both sides adhered to the restrained relations, between the parties and the states alike.
