Summary/Abstract: The present paper brings into discussion the role and importance of identity and cultural variables in the construction of a European security culture. The main points are related to a conceptual and theoretical framework that can provide the methodology for investigating security perceptions and to understand the limits of preference formation. For exemplification, we use certain data from Eurobaromenter that suggest an increasing common perception that all the fears and expectations are commonly shared by the Europeans and in this terms we can talk about a security culture.
