Summary/Abstract: The EU enlargement, integration and reintegration are a natural, complex, responsible, indispensable, and unforeseeable process. Taking into account the advantageous geographical position of Moldova, the author hopes that in the case of the Republic of Moldova the EU will apply an individually differentiated approach together with the regional approach, as mentioned in the British initiative on offering the status of special neighbours to the Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus, and Poland’s initiative, known as the “East dimension”. Some serious concerns regarding the human rights situation, the liberalization of economy, protection of private property, and creation of a favourable investment climate in Moldova are underlined. In addition, the author asks to what extent the EU enlargement process could contribute to the resolution of conflicts like the Transnistrian one, which the Republic of Moldova has to face.
