Theses on the Permanent End of Feminism

Summary/Abstract: The paper claims that, in spite of growing archives, feminist theory has been unable to constitute continuity and has been marked by endemic disruptions due to a) the paradox of difference in the face of universalism; b) the dynamic of „abjec-tivity" and„merginality" (with an „e") in the theoretical procedures of feminism; c) the dynamic of what Joan Scott has termed „orators" and „mothers" in the relationship between theory and activism. It does not follow, however, that feminist thought leaves no trace. On the contrary, it can be argued that its unacknowledged impact has played a role in all major intellectual shifts of the 20th century.
