Summary/Abstract: In introduction the causal relationship between different (formal and informal) areas of civil education and the process of society democratization is established. Next follows deliberation about the function of civil education in context of dynamics of the civil and political society in transition, as well as discussion about classical models of relationship between the state and the civil society. In order to „direct“ the conception of civil education towards specific aims, the specific form „minimum of social capital“, which is necessary for the balanced civil and political society in transition, has been considered, that is, the form of social capital that corresponds with the idea of citizen education in society in transition. In the last chapter is analysed the syllabus of the school subject Civil education, that is, its consistence with desired form of social capital, which is meant to be achieved by citizens’ education.
