Summary/Abstract: The study aims at defining the term “Christian initiation” from a historical and canonical point of view, relying both on texts of the Holy Fathers and of Church tradition as well as of the canons issued by the Ecumenical Synods. Starting with the premises that the three sacraments of Christian initiation are unitary in administration (Baptism as entrance to Christianity, Confirmation and the Eucharist that symbolizes the complete communion with Christ), the author emphasizes the historical, ecclesiological and eschatological effects of Baptism.
