Summary/Abstract: This short essay aims at answering the question why Paul his heavenly journey (2Cor 12, 1-10) in his rather polemical apology in 2 Cor 10-13. The present author is of the view that two sets of mystical experience are contrasted in this passage. Whereas one of them is based on “visions and revelations”, the other originates in Paul’s conviction that in and through his own suffering and difficulties he has to face, the risen Christ communicates his transforming power to those who accept Paul as an authentic witness to the Gospel.
