Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to provide a summary of corruption as a domestic and international problem, its political and economic costs, possible causes, problems of measurement and its manifestations in the transition economies of central and south-eastern Europe, as well as to outline targets for reform efforts by international organisations and domestic actors.
