Summary/Abstract: The text is an attempt to explain the phenomenon of almost entire lack of pre-Slavonic references in cultural thought and art during the World War II period. There is a brief presentation of the earlier reconstruction and reception of Slavonic plots, particularly in folklore. The myth of returning to the land seems to be the central motive. Further on, there are reasons why Slavonic culture was not a category eagerly highlighted by theorists of the culture during the war. Finally, the paper offers a suggestion of using the lack of the Slavonic myth of return in Baczyński’s works as a key to the interpretation of his poetry.
