Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of XVIII century, in 1703, by the order of Pope Clement XI, was assembled Kuvendi i Arbënit (Assembly of Arbën), which is an important event in the history of Catholic Church. The aim of this assembly was to make some radical changes in the religious life of Albanian people. This seemed to be one way to preserve the cultural, spiritual and linguistic identity as essential parts of national identity. The acts of Kuvndi i Arbënit were published in 1706 by the permission of Propaganda Fide in Rome, first in latin and later in the same year in Albanian. Even though it is a religious text, linguistic observations can be made upon it. Since our text is a translation from Latin, it would be interesting to compare the Albanian case system to Latin case system. It is known that Latin has reduced the number of Indo-Europiane languages from eight to six. They are: nominativus, genitivus, dativus, accusativus, ablativus, and vocativus. In Albanian too, the number of case forms has been reduced to five. For the attested Albanian these five cases have been acknowledged: emërore, gjinore, dhanore, kallëzore, rrjedhore. Albanian having no distinct form for the vocative, it is theoritecally not plausible to acknowlwdge it as a separate case. Latin cases are used in many different functions, compared to those of Albanian cases. Sometimes to Albanian cases have been ascribed the same functions of Latin cases due to the translation ad litteram. The word order is often preserved presenting to us some difficult and vague sentences, which sometimes do not sound grammatically correct. Albanian and Latin are two different languages and as a result with different grammatical structures. Based on such texts it is difficult to draw solid conclusions upon the evolution of the gramatical structures of a language. On the other hand, the text of Kuvendi i Arbënit remains an important source to elucidate most adequately the evolution of Albanian language at the beginning of XVIII century.
